$25,000 Hiking Participation Grant approved
The Rottnest Foundation has been approved for a $25,000 Hiking Participation Grant from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
In partnership with The Hike Collective, we are supporting the Wadjemup Bidi Trail Discovery Program - a comprehensive initiative designed to increase hiking participation on Rottnest Island and foster environmental stewardship and cultural appreciation.
The Wadjemup Bidi Discovery Program is a series of 4 weekend guided hiking experiences on the Wadjemup Bidi Trail network, that will include training workshops to develop a skilled and sustainable workforce of hiking guides, and conservation activities that focus on sustainable tourism such as trail maintenance and habitat restoration.
The Program will also emphasise the integration of Indigenous stories and cultural interpretation on each hike. Partnering with a Noongar Elder to deliver a Welcome to Country, Sand Ceremony and Walking on Country experience will ensure the cultural significance of the island is honoured and participants connection to the island is deepened.
Dates for the Wadjemup Bidi Trail Discovery Program will be released in May 2025. To register your interest now, contact Sally Hollis - ceo@rottnestfoundation.org.au.
