Donate to vote for the Quokka!
The Rottnest Foundation are excited to have been nominated as the charity partner for the Quokka in the 2024 Marsupial of the Year competition, hosted by Channel 10’s The Project. Announced by Rove McManus on Monday, 2 September, the Quokka was one of twenty-one Australian marsupials in the running to win the crown.
In the first round we received the second highest number of votes which put the Quokka in the Top 10 and through to the final round.

To be crowned the Marsupial of the Year we need your help to raise more than $10,000 on our dedicated Go Fund Me page by 30 September.
Quokkas are categorised as a Vulnerable species, which means they are facing extinction, unless the circumstances that are threatening their survival improve. Funds raised will support Rottnest Foundation Priority Projects, including Woodlands Restoration and Expansion Project and our Wadjemup Conservation Centre, both of which support the quokka population and contribute to minimising the threats to their survival.
The Woodlands Restoration and Expansion project aims to restore the island’s natural habitat to pre-European settlement density, conserving precious woodland ecosystems that provide food, habitat and wildlife corridors for the quokkas. The planned Wadjemup Conservation Centre will not only educate visitors on the threats facing the quokka population, but also provide a dedicated quokka hospital and rehabilitation area for any sick or injured quokkas.
