HBF Corporate Volunteering

HBF has once again partnered with the Rottnest Foundation to support conservation work on Rottnest Island.

A team of 45 volunteers travelled to the Island over three days in August, to undertake dune revegetation at Longreach Bay. The enthusiastic group planted a total of 6,775 seedlings, consisting of nine different coastal species, to regenerate the dune system that has been impacted by strong coastal winds and foot traffic, and strengthen the habitat corridor between the Basin and Longreach for native fauna.

The seed collection and propagation of the plants is undertaken on the Island by Rottnest Island Nursery Volunteers which increases the survival rate of the seedlings.

Once the plants were in the ground, the group enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Geordie Bay Cafe and the opportunity to explore the Island before returning on the ferry.

I was privileged to be selected to participate in the HBF Rottnest volunteering day. We were welcomed by the Rottnest Foundation and the Rottnest Island Environment team and I believe they were as excited as we were for the day ahead. The team worked together with humour and I personally valued spending time with colleagues that I didn’t know as well as others. The Rottnest Foundation and Island Ranger Team were fantastic in their organisation and hearing from them about the impact of our efforts made the day truly worthwhile. Thanks to the Rottnest Island Authority who provided on-ground support and our partners Rottnest Express and Rottnest Fast Ferries who assisted with ferry transport.
