Investment in Project Planning
The Board travelled to Wadjemup Rottnest Island to hold our March 2025 Board Meeting and partake in a number of presentations.
We were joined by Rottnest Foundation Ambassadors John Langoulant, Jeff King, Andy Fethers and Sue Campbell, as well as key staff from the Rottnest Island Authority (RIA), including Executive Director Jason Banks, RIA Board Member Louise Watson, Lotterywest Director Angela Vurens van Es, Rottnest Foundation Member and Donor, Graeme Monkhouse and SeaDog International Director Leighton De Barros.
The highlight of the day was a status update and two-hour bus tour where RIA staff detailed progress and the latest developments on the Foundation's 5 Priority Projects.
A significant financial investment has been expended by the RIA, to complete the planning stages for each project. The resulting site assessments, concept designs and costings, provide the Foundation with the detail to seek future funding to enable the projects to proceed.
Wadjemup Conservation Centre: A purpose-built centre with interactive education spaces, quokka hospital and environmental research facilities.
Boodja Kaartdijin: A trail of 7 sites across Wadjemup, dedicated to sharing Noongar culture, knowledge and stories.
Bickley Military Heritage Precinct: A project to renew military heritage structures and features including the creation of a dedicated military museum in the DID shed.
Wadjemup Bidi Walk Trail: To extend and improve accessibility to the 45km network of existing trails across Wadjemup.
Woodlands Restoration and Expansion: Continuing restoration of Wadjemup's natural habitat and conservation of woodland eco-systems through planting.
Not only did this busy day, provide the Board, our Ambassadors and stakeholders a firsthand look at the priority project sites, but it has also stimulated the team for the exciting work we have ahead.
